Rationale:
The North Carolina EDGE Mentoring Network in collaboration with
North Carolina State University is hosting
a one-day symposium for women in mathematics and statistics at NC State on Saturday, April 16.
The goals of the symposium are to
(1) Build a network of local female mathematicians and statisticians in order to foster mentoring and collaborative relationships.
(2) Provide an opportunity for graduate students to present their research in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment.
Participants are invited to give a 20-minute talk. The talks may consist of original research,
but expository talks describing a problem of interest are also welcome. We especially encourage graduate
students to give a talk even if they don't yet have their own results. In addition to contributed talks, there will be
keynote presentations, small group discussions, and plenty of opportunities for networking.
The symposium is free, and lunch will be provided to registered participants. The complete schedule, along with abstracts,
will be posted after the registration deadline.
