The following excellent suggestions for players going from racquetball to
squash were gleaned (and modified by me) from a post on the U.S. Squash website's forum . . .
- Don't try to kill the ball on every shot. Racquetball, at the highest levels, is about shotmaking. They have to convert their thinking to moving the opponent and creating opportunities.
- The serve is more defensive than offensive. Very tough thinking for racquetball players.
- Vary the pace. Racquetball players often slam the ball 100 mph.
- Vary the height of the shot. Racquetball players hit many shots very low.
- Learn the lob. The only lob most racquetball players hit is a power ceiling lob, not a soft lob. They have to develop this shot.
- Understand the idea of a "working" shot -- racquetball emphasizes hitting
winners as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
- Learn the soft boast. Racquetball players do hit boasts, but always hard and low. In squash, there's the defensive boast from the back and the offensive boast from the front that are very effective ...
